New Haven Floral Shop Fulfilling Her Dream, Creating for Any Occasion

July 26, 2015, The New Haven Register, by Shahid Abdul-Karim - "As a teenager, Carrien Davis dreamed of owning a floral shop. With the help of her husband, Chris,  Any Occasion Creation became a reality. "I dreamt flowers and I would go to sleep thinking of different creations and arrangements," said Carrien Davis, 43, a native of Dominica in the Caribbean. "Opening a shop has been something I've wanted to do for a very long time; it's always been my passion," she said. The shop is located at 847 Whalley Ave. in the Westville section of the city. It’s open Monday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Davis got her chance to showcase her skills in 1995 when she designed and created floral arrangements for her sister’s wedding. “I’ve always had an eye for flowers, so I volunteered to do her wedding, said Davis, whose parents decided to move the family from Dominica in 1992 for better opportunities. “I bought lose silk flowers and began to put the arrangements together for the wedding in my home,” she said. “I realized how easy it was and that was my start.” Davis said after the wedding she began to focus on creating a variety of arrangements for others. “I started concentrating my efforts and doing more for friends and relatives,” she said. In 2007, she realized her craft was taking off, so she started advertising more to coworkers. And in 2009 she started a part-time floral business from the basement of her home. “I began to get orders for Christmas, special occasions and a few weddings,” said Davis, who worked in the travel industry before becoming a business owner...
