Holiday Food Drive

Christian Community Action (CCA) is an ecumenical social service organization that expresses faithful witness through providing emergency food, housing and support to those who are poor in New Haven, encouraging their efforts to attain self-sufficiency and working to change systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice.  http://www.ccahelping.org

Jewish Family Service of New Haven provides social services throughout the Greater New Haven area regardless of age, religion or ethnicity.  These include:  Infant, Domestic and Inter-country Adoption Services;  Specialized Foster Care; Individual, Marriage & Family Counseling; Services for Older Adults; Holocaust Survivor Program; Children's Respite Services; Programs for Adults with Developmental Disabilities; Food Assistance; Empowering People for Success Program; and Volunteer Services. http://www.jfsnh.org

The New Haven Animal Shelter is the largest animal shelter in the State of Connecticut, with over 60 dog runs, attracting over 3,200 visitors annually. The Animal Shelter takes in about 2,000 dogs and cats each year. Through its partnership with the Humane Commission, Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, and the North Shore Animal League, the Animal Shelter has sponsored several adoption events throughout the year, leading to an adoption rate of 75 percent, or roughly 1,500 dogs and cats.

There is tremendous need this season for the most basic necessities.  Please join us in helping fellow New Haven residents feed their families this holiday season.

Items in need: Bags or boxed mixes of rice, bags of red or black beans, pasta, canned fish, low sugar/no sugar added canned fruits, canned meats and vegetables, pasta sauce, low-sugar cereals, low-sodium soups, hot cereals, oatmeal, coffee, tea, canned juices, juice boxes and any non-perishable food items.  Pet food, dry or wet, and regular, non-clumping cat litter. No glass containers please.

The Holiday Food Drive will run until Wednesday December 9th

and will conclude at the monthly meeting of the Community Management Team

at 6:30 at the Valley Street Substation.  We hope to see you there!
