Connecticut Historic Homes Tax Credit

In 2001 a group of Westville neighbors recognizing the historic importance of Westville and it's special place in New Haven's evolution started working with the New Haven Preservation Trust to document and gain historic district designation for Westville. Volunteers helped with the survey documentation of Westville structures and raised over $7,000 to defray costs involved in such a large and complicated undertaking.

This group, now organized as the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance (WVRA), was instrumental in gaining recognition for the Westville commercial corridor and the surrounding residential neighborhood. Now known as the Westville Village and Westville Suburban Historic Districts they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places.

Bounded by Edgewood Park to the east, Derby Avenue and the Yale Bowl to the south, Forest Road and Harrison Street to the west and Westville Center along Whalley Avenue to the north the Westville Village and Westville Suburban Historic Districts not only bring recognition to this unique New Haven neighborhood but may qualify certain structures for rehabilitation tax credits. The boundaries stated above are descriptive not definitive. To ascertain if your home is a contributing structure within one of the historic districts please contact the New Haven Preservation Trust.

Many residents have taken advantage of the Connecticut Historic Homes Tax Credit Program administered by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. This renovation program is geared toward preserving and restoring conforming structures within State historic districts. For more information regarding this program please contact:
