Edgewood Park Ranger Station Expansion Plan

The city Parks Department is considering this plan to expand the Edgewood Park Ranger Station. The cost is estimated to be $650,000. State Rep. Pat Dillion (D-New Haven) has submitted a bill before the Connecticut General Assembly to pay for the expansion. This measure is pending.

These two pages are the letter to the city from the architect, Christopher Williams, detailing the expansion proposal and a scale drawing of the site.

The Friends of Edgewood Park supports this project. FOEP acknowledges that the current Ranger Station is small and cramped, and that better use of the site is a big step toward making the park a more valuable resource for city residents and children. Good bathrooms are especially vital to this goal.

But FOEP also as a whole believes that the city needs to back up this plan with plans to increase and improve programs in the park. FOEP also believes the Parks Department should appropriate or seek funds for the maintenance of established park structures before seeking enhancements.

Park Ranger Harry Coyle believes the expansion would allow him to do more things with school groups in the station than he does now and would give him more space for storage.

The Parks Department has also asked Rep. Dillion to seek funds for programs inthe park. This proposal is pending before the General Assembly.
